Hi I'm Yogina Shakya. The role of Human Resources became apparent to me when I was in my very first job as a call center representative. I have always been a person with sharp observational skills and great attention to detail. The contribution of the HR function was very clear to me in the early stages of my professional life. In that call center, I found myself in awe of my HR colleagues conducting interviews and leading training sessions. I had great admiration for the HR staff who were often at the center of workplace camaraderie, whilst also diligently carrying out important duties behind the scenes.
Later on, I worked a front desk job, performing essential administrative tasks and doing anything and everything to make sure the office operations ran smoothly. But in this role, the lines of responsibility were often blurred and it was becoming increasingly evident to me that matters relating to the management of personnel were my passion.
Around 5 years into my career, I took the leap to become an HR practitioner at an IT company. At the time, I did not have an academic background in HR and so I learned everything on the job through hard work and dedication. On reflection, I believe taking this step into HR was one of the best decisions of my life.
Whenever asked why I chose to specialize in HR, my answer had always been to bring out the best in people and to help them grow. I always felt that should be the main focus of HR. But, once I started in her role as an HR practitioner, I soon realized that HR professionals do not always have adequate time for that because they are overloaded with administrative work. It was at this point that I recognized that HR professionals are often the ones who need help, so that they can in turn help others.
With my experience of working in the HR function of the scaling up business, I want to support companies build a strong HR function to build, grow and sustain their business.
